Tips For Removing Spots on Carpet

Have you ever experienced a spot on your carpet that appeared out of nowhere?

This is not science fiction. And no one in your home is playing pranks on you. But how? Was it a freak accident? They do happen. And spots will always remain part of your carpet unless you know a few tips to help you remove them.

There are three stages a substance undergoes to become a stain. If you spill a soda on the carpet and ignore it, you will see that it is a spill at first. Then it becomes a spot. And then finally, a stain. Here is some information that can help you understand the process of staining and the techniques by which you can remove them.

1. The spill

First, there is the spill. The substance is still fresh on the carpet and hasn't had time to sink in and attach to the pile. Reacting as quickly as you can to a spill is the best solution for avoiding a terrible stain. The first thing you want to do is extract as much of the substance as possible. Do this with some clean towels or a shop vac. When cleaning up the area make sure NOT to rub. Gently blot the spill with your towel.

2. The spot.

After the spill dries up some it becomes a spot. This is known as the second step. The substance has already attached to the carpet pile and will be harder to remove. You may have to call a professional carpet cleaning services to eliminate the spot for you. If you have an idea as to what substance caused the spot, you may be able to use a commercial product or home brewed solution to get it out.

3. The stain

The stain will be the last step. Stains can be an absolute a pain in the neck and are sometimes there for good. There are a number of stain removal procedures that you can try or you might want to hire a professional for.

Following some tips for carpet cleaning can save you a ton of money. One tip is to act quickly! No carpet is stain-free, no matter what the salesman told you when you bought it. Fast response is one of the most important keys in keeping spills from becoming permanent stains.

  • Do not scrub or rub at the stain. Yes, it’s tempting to rub stains away, but don't. Scrubbing a stain pushes the substance further into the carpet. This is only going to bring about more problems.
  • Be aware that the strength of a carpet to resist stains wears down with the passing of time. So, even if you have a stain resistant carpet, make sure that you are taking proper care to it. This will ensure that your carpet will retain the original look.

A stain won’t completely ruin your carpet. It will still function as it is supposed to. But do you really want such an eyesore hanging around when you are fully capable of removing it? The advice is free. It’s up to you to use it.
